“You are at once a beating heart and a single heartbeat in the body called humanity.”
“You’ll See It When You Believe It.” Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
Our “fall from grace” was not a punishment from God for inappropriate behavior, but a simple, easily reversed psychological phenomenon resulting from some undocumented features of a perfectly normal function of the human psyche – survival mode.
When faced with a threat we go into fight or flight mode, and reman in that mode until we are no longer threatened. Somehow, way back in the past, we got stuck in survival mode and are still stuck there today.
This has cost us much of what makes us human, and inflicted on us most of the negative traits that are called human nature, but which are in fact humanity de-natured. It has manifested in our cultures, the collections of myths and fairy tales and bizarre customs that our societies are based on.
Being stuck in survivor mode is the underlying cause of all mental illness, and our current mental health philosophy of treating the symptoms without treating the underlying cause is making the situation worse.
